The world that we are living in is changing so fast. Take you back to a time in history when all we had to live on was the crops that our ancestors planted in their farms and the barter trade in most ancient native societies. With the introduction and establishment of technology and the subsequent modernization, a lot of other things changed with the transformations in society. For instance, job opportunities sprouted like mushrooms from the ground with the invention of transport and communication while leadership which came as a result of modernization and growth of towns and cities, gave an opportunity to aspiring individuals, which in turn led to the creation of a multitude of other opportunities across different fields including sports, tourism and many others. Work and career became an important aspect of our lives, and it has remained so to date.
Work has more to do with the daily activities that have both meaning to you and also source you some income, either daily, weekly or monthly. It doesn’t have to be stable or long-term; it doesn’t have to be in an office or an enclosure. Anything that sources you a reward at the end which could or could not be in the form of income qualifies to be work.
What exactly is a Career?
Career, on the other hand, is in some way related to work, only in its incorporation thereof, but differs from the former in the way it’s more stable and while the name in itself generalizes all kinds of occupations, a career can be said to be more specific as compared to work. What do we mean by specific? Your career is something specific you do, could be long-term or even for a lifetime, and could be an employed job or self-employment; all in all, the point is in its stability and the duration of the commitment. However, someone can say that the two are inextricably intertwined, and who are we to deny that? It’s clear that without work, there’s no career, yet your work could be your career if you look at it that way.
Is Your Career Important?
Is it? Definitely! We are living in an age where money is held in very high regard. We are living in times when without a dollar in your pockets, there’s very little you can do, and survival becomes an uphill battle. Look at the rates of unemployment in third world countries; look at the poverty all across such countries and the vices that come as a result of unemployment, vices like theft and robbery all across the globe. This, strangely, is why work & career is important.
Work & career gives you purpose. It gives you a reason to wake up every morning; it gives you something to wake up to. Work & career pays your bills and sustains your life; it gives you the money you need to do that grocery shopping or have fun on a Friday night. However, this is not to say that without work, you’d be hopeless and lose direction in life. No. Work is but the easiest way of having an amazing life without having to toil too much, even though work in itself is toiling. We all want to change the world in one way or another, and make better lives for the generations to come; this is exactly how.
We’re in a competitive age. It’s important for companies to find ways to beat their competitors. Intrapreneurship can help with that. Find out why, here!
